i think you should use emojis more often 🤖

  • I’ve used them, on rare occasions, but have been unable to summon the will to do so again. I have a hard time thinking of them as a replacement for actual words.

    The mere fact of their existence is confusing, because when we use standard characters from the English alphabet, we (usually) all have a good sense of what we mean by “the word X,” or “sentence X,” or “phrase X.” Do we have that kind of sense for emoticons? I think we do not. It seems like there’s room for a lot of confusion about what any given emote actually means, and even if they all have some unambiguous basic meaning, it doesn’t seem like that makes up for the potential for ambiguity.
